The government that Abraham Lincoln spoke of in the Gettysburg Address, the government that was of the people, by the people and for thepeople has, in fact, perished from the earth. Now it’s government for the corporations, lobbyists and moneyed interests. Can Lincoln’s vision be restored? It must be and progressives are the only ones who stand between true democracy and the slippery slope of fascism.

First, I love your blog site. Second, I couldn’t agree more that our society is repleat with examples of police-state tactics being used against the population. I see it every day when inner city kids are stopped and searched without cause. You can call it the war on drugs but it seems to me to be a war on the poor. Beyond that there is the legacy of 911. Police forces all over America were trained in anti-terrorism tactics. Now that the tactics are in place they are used. It’s the same with the military. When a country spends as much of its GDP on military capability as does the US, you can bet that the military will become an instrument of foreign policy.
